Derek Filler with Vice Captain John Tudor
The Seniors Open was held on Wednesday 5th August. With 84 competitors from clubs across the region, the day got off to a good start. The conditions on the day were excellent and even the rain stayed off. The standard of play returned some outstanding scores in this four ball, better ball, stableford competition. The overall day was rounded off with a great meal and a beer or two in the clubhouse and some serious tales of that nearly “holed in one” or just missed it by a whisker stories. As the score were starting to come into the clubhouse it was obvious that the leaderboard was going to be a close one. The winners on the day were Steve Lythell and Derek Filler from “Manor of Groves” Golf Club with a brilliant score of 48pts. Unfortunately Dereks playing partner Steve had to leave before the presentation. The picture shows Derek Filler on the left being presented with the first prize form John Tudor the Vice Captain of the Seniors section. In second place with a score of 46pts was Doug Misson and Cuth Suttle from Newmarket Links Golf Club. Third place on count back went to Colin Bell and John Banks from Bury St Edmonds with 45pts. This years longest drive which was on the 14th went to Jim Lawlor with an amazing 260yd drive the nearest the pin which was on the 3rd was won by Keith Cady. All in all the day was a great success and a good day was had by all.
