The Seniors Section at Cambridge Meridian Golf Club won the play off match for the Cambridgeshire Seniors Match Play League on the 18th September.
Roger Worth, John Bishop, Mark Grant, Bob Batty, Brian Whitelaw, Peter Hulyer, Roger Harrison and John McGivern
The match against Northern League winners Lakeside Lodge Golf Club was won 4 – 0 by Meridian Seniors who were winners of the Southern section of the League.
Our opponents in the Southern League were Cambridge Golf Club, Barkway Park Golf Club, Malton GolfCllub and Waterbeach Golf Club.
This represents rapid progress by the Seniors at Meridian, a young section compared to many longer established Seniors Sections. Senior Captain Bill Liddell attributes the early success to the camaraderie within the section. “It has been a pleasure to lead such a friendly group” said Bill, “they are also very enthusiastic and committed and this has resulted in a very successful season. It has also been pleasing to receive very complimentary remarks from visiting teams about the challenging nature and condition of the Meridian course.”
Meridian Seniors now have a very full annual programme of internal competitions, a fixture list of 24 matches, and a number of “away days” to visit and play new courses.
